Response to Jordan Fortin Week Nine
I do not agree with Jordan when it comes to Kentucky Belle and Romanticism. I read the poem Kentucky Belle online and it was not interesting. The romanticism wasn't real interesting to me, because of the often complex and slightly non-interesting sentences that run on forever. Romanticism just isn't interesting for me to read.
Response to Kayla Deraps Week nine
I agree with Kayla, I also like realism. I like that it states the point and is easy to read. I agree that the story, "The Kiss", is direct and ans states the obvious. I agree with Chopin that you can't get everything you want. I also like that this ism portrays real life.
Which Author would I choose for my year-long author study?
I believe I would choose Mark Twain as my year long author study. I like the straight forward writing that Realism offers. Mark Twain is also a well-known author, and I have never read a book by him. The use of comedy in the vernacular interests me a lot. I also read that as his writing progressed, his comic view of the dark and hypocritical view of the world dominated his writing, which excites me. Mark Twain wrote in many genres, Which is why I may want to choose him.
Which writings from the "isms" or era did I like most, and why?
My favorite writing was the poem writen by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and it is from the "ism" Romanticicism. The reason why I liked this writing better than any other because of the setting. I liked how Longfellow created a Medieval backdrop in my head, and I liked that, because history is one of my favorite subjects in school. I also liked the style of Longfellow's writing, especially how Longfellow described the Village Blacksmith. Longfellow gave me a vidid image of the blacksmith, he described the Blacksmith as the model man, and provided details as to how he is the model man.
I was was surprised my favorite poem or writing was actually from the Romanticism "ism". I usually don't like pomes that isn't straightforward, but "The Village Blacksmith" was appealing to me because of the setting, and also Longfellow's style of writing. I'm think of myself as a very conservative person and I though I wouldn't like anything that is a direct reaction towards the perceived structures of a preceding age. The Village Blacksmith proved my thoughts wrongs, and I was quite surprised.
